Dubbeldam Architecture + Design is a Canadian multidisciplinary architecture studio committed to advancing architectural and social agendas through design research and built work that enriches the human experience. Founded by Heather Dubbeldam, a fourth-generation architect, the studio has developed a reputation for unique, beautifully crafted, and environmentally responsible projects that embody the spirit of place and people. The studio’s portfolio includes sustainable architecture and interiors in many sectors including workspaces, hospitality, mixed-use, and residential, as well as landscape design and architectural installations. Recipient of over 90 awards and honours, including the 2024 RAIC Architectural Practice Award, the Canada Council for the Arts Professional Prix de Rome in Architecture, and the Ontario Association of Architects Best Emerging Practice Award, the studio’s work continues to generate international recognition.
Dubbeldam are recognized as advocates for progressive design and planning that exemplifies best practices in social and environmental sustainability, regenerative design, and urban resilience, disseminating this research through blogs, public speaking, and dialogue with policy makers. A common thread in Dubbeldam’s work is a commitment to enhancing the public realm through built work, research, and advocacy. Continuously challenging the status quo drives their research, focused on best practices in environmental and social sustainability in Scandinavia and North America. Their self-initiated design research focuses on developing approaches to address the shortage of housing options in urban areas in Canada by proposing incremental, rapid solutions to increase housing density, with an emphasis on supporting liveability for inhabitants.
